- MCU2 or newer: Compatible
- MCU1: Not compatible
2. Firmware Version
- Model X requires 2025.20 or newer
How to check MCU: MCU2 became standard in March 2018. If your Model X is older and hasn’t been upgraded, it likely has MCU1. The MCU1 screen is noticeably slower. Tesla service centers can upgrade MCU1 to MCU2, but it’s a paid service.
How to check firmware: Controls > Software on your touchscreen.
MCU1 vehicles cannot use Sentry Driver. Tesla’s Fleet API requires MCU2 hardware.
