Monitor Your Tesla Model S
Monitor your Tesla Model S with Sentry Driver. Get real-time alerts, trip tracking, and accident detection. Check firmware and MCU compatibility before setup.
Features for Your Model S
Premium Sedan. Premium Concerns About Compatibility.
The Model S has been in production since 2012. That’s a lot of hardware variations. Before you sign up, you need to know if Sentry Driver will work with your specific vehicle.
Let’s be direct about what’s required.
Will Sentry Driver Work With My Model S?
It depends on two things:
1. MCU (Media Control Unit) Version
- MCU2 or newer: Compatible
- MCU1: Not compatible. Fleet Telemetry requires MCU2.
2. Firmware Version
- Model S requires firmware 2025.20 or newer
To check your MCU version: The easiest tell is your screen. MCU1 has a slower, less responsive display. MCU2 came standard starting in March 2018. Older vehicles can upgrade to MCU2 at a Tesla service center.
To check firmware: Tap Controls > Software on your touchscreen.
If you have MCU1 and haven’t upgraded, Sentry Driver won’t work. Tesla’s Fleet API doesn’t support the older hardware.
What Compatible Model S Vehicles Get
Once your Model S meets the requirements, you get the full feature set:
- 5 alert types: Speed limits, curfew hours, geofence zones, accident detection, driving behavior
- Automatic Bluetooth driver detection: Know when you’re driving vs. when someone else is
- Real-time location and speed: Track your Model S in motion
- Complete trip history: Distance, maximum speed, hard braking events logged for every drive
- Battery and charge status: Monitor charge level remotely
- Event log: Full record of driving events
Business and Fleet Use
The Model S often serves as an executive vehicle or part of a corporate fleet. When someone else drives your six-figure sedan, you should know how they drive it.
Sentry Driver works without requiring drivers to install software or check in. Hand the keys to a colleague, valet, or service technician. Get alerts if they exceed speed thresholds, leave designated areas, or drive outside approved hours.
Valet and Service Monitoring
Dropping your Model S at valet? Getting it serviced? Sentry Driver monitors every trip while you’re away. See the route taken, maximum speed reached, and any incidents.
No confrontation required. Just data.
Setup Requirements
- Verify MCU2 and firmware 2025.20+
- Connect your Tesla account through Sentry Driver
- Complete virtual key pairing (about 5 minutes)
- Enable Bluetooth on your phone for owner detection
If you’re unsure about your hardware, check before subscribing. MCU1 vehicles cannot use Sentry Driver regardless of firmware version.
