How does Sentry Driver know when I'm driving vs. someone else?
Sentry Driver uses Bluetooth to detect when your phone is near the vehicle.
Here’s how it works:
- Your phone must be set up as a key to your Tesla (via the Tesla app)
- When you’re in or near the car with your phone, Sentry Driver detects your presence via Bluetooth
- When your phone is detected, alerts are automatically suppressed
- When your phone is not detected, alerts are enabled
This means you don’t need to remember to toggle anything on or off - the app intelligently knows whether you’re the one driving based on your phone’s presence.
What if I leave my phone at home?
If you drive without your phone, the app won’t detect you as the driver and you may receive alerts. You can easily dismiss these in the app, or mark drives as “owner present” after the fact.
