Does the other driver need the app, and will they know they're being monitored?
The other driver doesn’t need the app and doesn’t have to do anything. Sentry Driver is an owner-only app — they install nothing, set up nothing, and don’t change how they drive.
Monitoring happens through the vehicle’s own data via Tesla’s official Fleet API, not through anything on the other person’s phone. Because of that, the app itself doesn’t announce to them that monitoring is active.
That makes transparency your call. For a teen or family member, a quick heads-up usually helps. For employees or anyone driving a company vehicle, being open about it and getting consent is good practice — and in some places it’s expected. This isn’t legal advice, but when in doubt, simply let people know the car is monitored.
