Does Sentry Driver do what Tesla's Teen Driver Mode does?

Not quite — they do different jobs, and they actually work well together. What people call “Teen Driver Mode” is really Tesla’s Parental Controls (Tesla markets it for teens), and it restricts the car.

Tesla Parental Controls can:

• Cap the top speed
• Use reduced acceleration
• Lock safety features on (forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more)
• Send a curfew notification during Tesla’s current late-night window

It’s a PIN-protected, vehicle-wide setting, so it affects every driver and you have to remember to turn it on or off whenever the driver changes.

Sentry Driver does not restrict your car at all. Instead, it gives you visibility: timely alerts when your owner phone is not detected, with no profile to switch. It uses Bluetooth owner detection and then alerts you based on your own custom thresholds — including hard-braking alerts and trip history that Tesla’s native controls are not built around.
